How to get involved

Getting involved is easy! Take a look at the volunteering activities available below to see what may be of interest to you – there are opportunities both on and off campus, as well and in-person and virtual events.

To register your interest in becoming an alumni ambassador and volunteering your time, take the following steps:

. If you haven’t yet registered, you will need to do this first! It only takes a couple of minutes and once your account is verified you will have access to all areas of the alumni portal.
Once logged in, go to the navigation bar at the top of the screen and hover over 'My profile' – a dropdown menu will appear.
Select 'Volunteer as an ambassador' from the dropdown menu.
Select how you would like to get involved and the subject area you studied, and click ‘Update’.

It’s as simple as that. We will then contact you when relevant opportunities arise.

There is no expected commitment when initially registering your interest so if you are thinking about it, but not sure what to expect, then sign up and wait to see what volunteering opportunities come up!

Year-round Alumni Ambassador opportunities

Share your experiences, knowledge, advice or career tips.

Share your story
We love hearing what our graduates are up to, and how your student experience has shaped your career. By providing a written profile or short video, you can inspire Herts students.

We will ask you a few questions about your time at uni and life after Herts. We will then review your answers and will get in touch if we feature you as a case study.
Time commitment: 1 hour.
Share your news
Tell us your notable professional or personal successes, award wins or sporting achievements. If we can share your news we will get in touch!
Time commitment: 1 hour.
Share what you know
This is your opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise. This could be a research article or thought leadership piece, and we are also keen to hear from experts in lifestyle advice and wellbeing.

Tell us your area of interest and we will get in touch if we can share this. Blogs and vlogs are a great way to introduce a topic you are passionate about or to offer tips and advice.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours.
Event speaker or panel member
Add a strong addition to your skill set by volunteering to speak at an in-person or online event.
Events take place throughout the year, both in-person and online. We will match you with appropriate events based on what you studied and your graduating year. A full brief will be provided.
Time commitment: It varies, typically 1-3 hours.
Employability skills session for students
Our Careers team host a range of employability skills sessions including things like helping students practice at job interviews.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours.
Mentoring
We have developed a new Career Mentoring Programme to give students the opportunity to get an insight into different employment sectors and develop their employability skills. Mentors and Mentees are carefully matched, and both participants will be supported throughout.
Time commitment: mentoring sessions over a three to six-month period.

Other ways to get involved

Host a class reunion
Online or in-person reunions are a great way to catch up and reconnect with your classmates.

You can decide how you want to run your reunion! Just remember to tell us how you are celebrating and if you want to visit campus, by contacting your Alumni team.
Time commitment: You'll need to be prepared to put in a few hours for event planning!
Join the conversation on social media
Get nostalgic and post your favourite uni photos on social media, tagging @uniofherts and using the hashtag #HertsAlumni. Follow Herts and engage with our posts too.
We are also looking for content creators to film fun videos for TikTok and Instagram.

If we see a post we would like to share across the university’s social channels, we will get in touch.
Time commitment: It varies. A post can take just a few minutes or can take longer depending on how creative you get!

By donating to the University Student Trust Fund, you can play a part in ensuring all students get the most out of their university experience and achieve more in the future as a result. Every donation, however small, can make a big difference.
