91¿´Æ¬ Policing team

To ensure the university is a safe place to study, Herts have a dedicated team of Police Officers, who patrol the grounds of both of our campuses, de Havilland and College Lane.

Our officers patrol the grounds until 23.00 everyday, by foot and by car. They are a team of three who are on-hand to provide advice, police any incidents and promote student safety at all times, on and off campus.

Our officers are part of the wider Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood team.

Events

The team regularly host events, as well as participating in University events such as the Freshers’ Fair, for students to gain crime prevention advice and speak to police about any crime-related issues affecting them.

An example of a recent event run was the 'Free Bike Security Marking' event which took place at Hatfield Police Station. This event resulted in over 100 bikes being marked in a bid, making them less attractive to thieves.

Throughout the year, the team set up ‘beat surgery’ stalls across both campuses where students are invited to pop along to gain advice and information.

Download the OWL crime & safety alerts app

Hundreds of police and council officers use OWL in Hertfordshire and London to send crime alerts, advice and updates directly to the public. You can receive local alerts for free, simply by downloading the OWL app. No registration or login necessary.

The OWL app works across all of Hertfordshire and half of London.

Previously, the 91¿´Æ¬ Police team used to sign students up to this service via paper forms, however the app is much more efficient, and also provides further safety information, such as providing contact information for local Officers and Police Stations, and contact information for reporting incidents and crimes to the Police.
