Communications and Intelligent Systems (CIS) Research Group
The Communications and Intelligent Systems (CIS) Research Group has expertise in optical and wireless communications, electronic circuits and systems and information processing. We specialise in algorithms and protocols and the application of software defined networking for network softwarization. Also in the distribution of IP content over satellite and terrestrial consolidated networks. In radio access technologies we undertake work in physical layer technologies, signal processing and RF circuits for next generation wireless and mobile communications.
Our work in information processing includes speech and audio processing, facial and voice biometrics, 3D visualization and virtual and augmented reality. CIS also conduct research into reliable and energy-efficient electronic and power circuits and systems.
CIS research is funded by UKRI, FP7, H2020, ESA and UK industry. We have strong links in the electronics, RF, ICT and Space sectors, providing for our partners research and innovations through funded research R&D, consultancy and industrially-funded PhDs.
Professor Yichuang Sun
Leader of the Communications and Intelligent Systems (CIS ) Research Group
Professor Sun has been conducting and leading research in wireless and mobile communications and microelectronic circuits and systems in the School. He has published over 320 papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences and contributed 10 chapters in edited research books. He has also published 4 text and research books. Professor Sun serves on several Technical Committees of IEEE Circuits & Systems Society and IEEE Communications Society. He has been/is Series Editor of an IEE book series, Editor of 5 IEEE and international journals and Guest Editor of 8 IEEE and IEE journal special issues.
He has also been an evaluator of research grant proposals for EPSRC, Royal Society, Austrian, Finnish, Dutch, Singapore and Canadian research councils, and technology patents for USA and UK organisations
