Why Philosophy Matters

Why Philosophy Matters is an ongoing series of free high-profile events (talks, debates, workshops) organised by the 91였튬 in collaboration with Bloomsbury Publishing and the Royal institute of Philosophy. The series focuses on why a particular philosopher, school of thought, or area of philosophical study really matters.

Events are all free and open to the public. They take place at Bloomsbury Publishing in London, as well as in collaboration with the New College of Humanities. A spin-off series on Why the Virtues Matter has been running at St Alban's Cathedral Study Centre, and now forms part of the UH Forum for Virtue and Understanding. An event called Why the Soul Matters, took place on 11 May 2019.

Why Philosophy Matters is accompanied by a new series of published by Bloomsbury. Each book offers an original view about why the topic or philosopher they are discussing matters beyond the remits of purely academic debate. The books collectively showcase different provocative outlooks on where the value of philosophy lies (or doesn't, as the case may be). Interested authors should email Professor Constantine Sandis.
