Improving air quality through LIDAR

Our bespoke laser radar or �쁫idar�� system is at the forefront of research into the effects of atmospheric pollution on climate change, air quality and human health.

Research degrees

Apply for a studentship. We have a range of postgraduate research projects leading to either the PhD or MSc degree.

Our research focuses on a broad range of key science questions including air quality, airborne particles, applied mathematics, astronomy, atmospheric interactions, microphysical processes and theoretical physics.

The impact of our research is far reaching. This was recognised in the REF 2014 where our Physics research achieved 100% 'very considerable or considerable impact'.

Teaching and learning is enriched by the research carried out in the School. Our students also benefit from links to collaborations in other areas of science and industry.
