Midwifery

Midwives play an important role in preparing women for the delivery of new life and their presence is vital during all stages of pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period.

Midwives hold a unique position in the healthcare professions, providing an invaluable service caring for women and their babies.

Choose from:

Undergraduate

The pre-registration courses for midwives provide a stepping stone from diploma level to first degree level or from first degree level to Master's degree level.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate/Post-Registration

Your midwifery qualifications and experience will open a wide range of options to develop your career in the directions that interest you most.

Facilities

We have outstanding facilities for midwifery students including a delivery suite and birthing room with pool.

Practice placements

Every year of the programme, students undertake placements in midwifery departments, as we believe that the best way to develop clinical skills and knowledge is by hands-on experience, gained by working in our partner practice placement hospitals.

We have a dedicated team that manages and supports practice placements. The team includes University lecturers and placement educators who work together and meet regularly to ensure that your clinical practice experience is of the highest quality.

Provides health and social care for people with mental and physical ill health and those with learning disabilities across Hertfordshire.

Looks after patients in community settings such as health centres and GP Practices and in people’s own homes across the county.

Provides a wide range of hospital services including emergency and diagnostic care, inpatient, outpatient, maternity and specialist services.

Provides acute health care services to a core catchment population of approximately half a million people living in West Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas

Provides a full range of general acute outpatient and diagnostic services across three busy hospitals

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals

Provides community health, mental health and learning disability services throughout Bedfordshire, Essex and Suffolk

Provides a wide range of mental health specialist services including children's and young people's mental health services, prison services, forensic services, eating disorders and drug and alcohol recovery
