Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapy course prepares students to become skilled professionals to help people overcome challenges related to daily activities due to disabilities, illness, trauma, ageing, or long-term conditions.

The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills through a combination of studying, on-the-job training, and practice placements. The course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT). Apprentices spend one day a week at university and four days a week in their workplace, gaining the skills and knowledge needed for contemporary occupational therapy practice. The course provides excellent career prospects in various sectors, including the NHS, social care, private sector, and charities.

Facilities

There are specialised Occupational Therapy facilities to practice moving and handling, as well as an adapted specialist bathroom and kitchen areas to help people with disabilities live independently.

Practice placements

Every year of the programme, students undertake placements in occupational therapy departments, as we believe that the best way to develop clinical skills and knowledge is by hands-on experience, gained by working in our partner practice placement hospitals.

We have a dedicated team that manages and supports practice placements. The team includes University lecturers and placement educators who work together and meet regularly to ensure that your clinical practice experience is of the highest quality.
